Research Institute of Experimental Veterinary Medicine

Another architectural landmark in Kharkiv, the National Scientific Centre ‘Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine’ of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, was damaged in a Russian air strike on 30 April 2024.

The building was constructed in 1926 (according to other sources, in 1928) to a design by O. Molokin and G. Ikonnikov for the Research Institute of Experimental Veterinary Medicine.

Its current address is Hryhoriia Skovorody Street, 83.

The building features eclectic elements of Ukrainian Art Deco (such as hexagonal and trapezoidal windows) and Constructivist architecture.

Also worth noting is the original bas-relief inscription in Ukrainian bearing the name of the Research Institute, executed in an original constructivist typeface.

According to the monitoring group HeMo: Ukrainian Heritage Monitoring Lab, the Russian strike caused significant damage to the building’s glazing, roof and interior. The institute’s annex, built around 1930 in the Constructivist style, was also damaged.
