On October 6, 2023, a Russian missile destroyed a section of a historic three-story building at Georgiy Tarasenko Street, 39, killing two people, including a child, and injuring several dozen others.

This design for a 28-unit residential building with a store was created by architect Boris Petrovich Gritsevsky in 1925. The building was constructed approximately between 1925 and 1927.

Researchers classify his style as transitional from Art Nouveau to Modernism.

Similar, lower-rise buildings can be found in the area around Novy Byt Street on Lysa Gora and Berkos Street in Sortirovka. For Boris Gritsevsky, this was one of his first projects—he graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Kharkiv Technological Institute in 1924 and worked at an architectural firm under the direction of S. Kravets.

The street on which the house was built was called Petinskaya until 1919, Plekhanovskaya from 1919 to 2023, and in 2023 it was renamed in honor of Georgiy Tarasenko, a defender of Ukraine who died in March 2022.
The building plans were discovered by Oleg Krepostnik at the State Archives of the Odessa Region (DAOO, fonds R-1231, file 1, item 3064).
