The House with the Clock at Maika Yohansena Street, 18

The building at Maika Yohansena Street, 18 is a true example of early 20th-century Kharkiv architecture. Here you can see a preserved Art Nouveau door with elegant glazing, and the main facade lacks any of the typical for Ukraine glazed “tsar balconies” from the 1990s. Most of the new windows have dark frames, not white ones. The clock on the door, by the way, is still ticking.

Surprisingly, the house is not a listed architectural landmark, and we do not know when it was built, who designed it, or who its original owner was.
