The main building of the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport was designed by architect Noi Podgorny, in collaboration with architect E.Y. Galperin, in 1956.

At that time, UkrSURT was known as the Kharkiv Institute of Railway Engineers.

What stands out most about the building is its neoclassical-style lobby.

The main building is located at Oboronnyi Val Square, 8.

The main building is connected by a passageway to the building that formerly housed the headquarters of the North Donetsk Railway.

Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport was built on the site of the Second Alexandrovskaya Girls’ Gymnasium, which was constructed in 1885 based on a design by Bolesław Michalowski. The gymnasium was destroyed during World War II, but its foundation was reused in the construction of the new building.

Few people know that a section of a TE3 diesel locomotive is “hidden away” in one of the annexes at the Ukrainian State Railway Transport University as a visual aid, and that a passenger car is parked in the courtyard.
