Frage (FRAGET)
(1824–1939) — a well-known Warsaw factory that produced items made of silver-plated metal and nickel silver. In addition to its main products, it also manufactured silverware. A purveyor to the Court of His Imperial Majesty, the firm was founded in 1824 by brothers Alphonse and Joseph Fraje and was named “Fraje Brothers.” In 1827, Alphonse Fraże withdrew from the business, and the factory passed entirely into the ownership of Joseph Fraże (May 25, 1797–1867). From that time on, it became known as “Fraże.” After Joseph Fraže’s death, the company was taken over by his son Julian Mikolaj, and a network of branches and stores was opened in St. Petersburg, Berdichev, Kharkiv, Vilnius, Kyiv, Tiflis, Zhytomyr, Grodno, Odesa, and Moscow. After Julian Fraže’s death, the firm passed into the ownership of his daughter, Maria. After 1919, the Fraže firm produced various items made of base metals and fulfilled military orders. Warsaw.
