B. Kontrolsky’s apartment building was designed by architect O. Rzhepishevskyi and built in 1911. The building looked better in gray, a color of many Rzhepishevskyi’s Northern Art Nouveau style buildings, but after the most recent renovation, it has taken on a brighter appearance.

Until 1922, the street was called Alexandrovskaya, as was the chapel located near the train station. It was then renamed Krasnoarmeyskaya Street, and from 1941 to 1943 it reverted to Alexandrovskaya. In 1943, it was renamed Krasnoarmeyskaya again. In 2015, it was renamed in honor of N. Konarev, a Kharkiv railway worker who served as head of the Southern Railway and initiated the construction of the Kharkiv Metro. In 2016, the street was renamed once again, this time in honor of Yevhen Kotlyar, a Kharkiv native and hero of the Heavenly Hundred.

The building’s current address is Yevhena Kotliara St, 4.
