Panoramas from “Trudovi Rezervy”

The abandoned “Trudovi Rezervy” stadium on Lysa Hora is a unique spot in Kharkiv, offering not only a panoramic view of the entire city, but also—with binoculars, a spotting scope or a zoom lens, you can see the bell towers of the Dormition Cathedral and Annunciation Cathedral lined up in a row. Many city residents agree that it offers the best view of Kharkiv.

The site of the stadium was formerly home to the Kholodnohirske (Kuzynske) Cemetery, which had existed since the 1830s. During World War II, the Germans buried about 10,000 Soviet prisoners of war from the Kholodnohirska Prison there.

The cemetery was demolished in the 1950s (according to other sources, in the 1960s). In the 1980s, construction began on the “Trudovi Rezervy” stadium on the site of the demolished cemetery, but it was never completed.

The stadium is officially closed and fenced in, but the entrance is easy to find on the south side of Volonterska Street.
