The restoration of the Holy Intercession Cathedral in Chuhuiv is nearing completion. This national architectural landmark was built between 1824 and 1834 in Neoclassical style according to a design by Vasily Stasov.

Shortly thereafter, the bell tower—which had previously stood separately and was connected to the cathedral by a colonnade—was completed.

By the end of the 19th century, the bell tower had been fully connected to the church via a passageway, and the space was converted into a warm winter chapel. During the Soviet era, the church was used for storage; the dome, bell tower, decorative elements, porticos, and murals were lost…

The porticos were restored in the late 1960s.

In 1984, an art gallery dedicated to the winners of the Repin Art Prize was opened in a former church.

In 2009, the building was transferred to the Orthodox community, and restoration work began (by architect V. Novgorodov). The art gallery moved to the Military Settlements Headquarters.

The bell tower was restored between 2018 and 2020.
