One of the most beautiful building staircase in the city is located in the former home of Andrei Potebnya, a private lecturer at the Kharkiv Imperial University. It was built in 1903 and is located at Divocha Street, 3.

Andrei was the adopted son of the renowned philologist Alexander Potebnya.

We should thank the residents for keeping the building entrance and staircase in such good condition.

Here, the decor has been preserved around both the triangular and the lancet windows.

Textured Mettlach tiles, greenery, and openwork railings, combined with a warm color palette, create a unique atmosphere inside.

A metal staircase leads up to the top floor…

This eclectic design with Gothic Revival touches is a real success for architect Jūlijs Caune and is arguably one of the main attractions of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Right next door, House 5A was built by the same architect and client (Andriy was the adopted son of the renowned philologist Alexander Potebnya), but more on that another time.
