It is unusual to find pre-soviet buildings on the outskirts of Kharkiv—the outskirts are typically associated with the city’s modern development. In this case, these are the hospital and post office located at Ternopilska Street 21 and 14/1. The hospital was built between 1907 and 1910 according to a design by architect Ivan Vinogradsky.

But everything falls into place when you remember what was here in the first place.

It is not uncommon for a city, as it expands, to absorb the surrounding settlements, which are just as ancient.

Zhykhor, first mentioned in 1656, was incorporated into the Kharkiv city in 1963.

And while we’ve written about St. Nicholas Church separately before, these buildings hadn’t caught our eye.
