The building at Myronosyts Street, 5/7 (formerly Radnarkomyvska Street) was built in 1958-1962 according to the design of architects N.F. Chernomorchenko and Z.D. Yudkevych.

This is an architectural monument, where the USSR State Security Committee was originally located.

In fact, the history of this landmark, like many others in the city, dates back to the beginning of the 20th century.

In its place stood several houses in the Art Nouveau and Eclectic styles.

In the early 1930s, they were combined into one building in the Constructivist style for the needs of the NKVD (designed by architect D. Torubarov).

The building was damaged during World War II, but it was restored and reconstructed in the Stalinist Empire style.
The building now houses the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region.

The building is one of the last representatives of the “Stalin Empire” neoclassical style in the city, but it was built after the beginning of the fight against “architectural excesses” – therefore it has a more modest decor than the houses of the early 1950s.

The lines of its details are simpler and straighter; in general, stylistically it can be called one of the most harmonious buildings of the 1950s in Kharkiv.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region was seriously damaged by a Russian missile strike on March 2, 2022.
