The building at Sumska Street, 76 was constructed in 1927–1928 for the “Ukrainian State Economic Union” a trust established during the late NEP period that comprised more than 160 collective farms. The abbreviation NKZS stands for “People’s Commissariat of Agriculture.”

The building’s style is eclectic—it features elements of Neoclassicism, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and Constructivism.

The project’s architect, Alexander Zakharovich Kogan, created two bas-reliefs symbolizing the evolution of agriculture under Soviet rule—the one on the left depicts a peasant plowing with a plow, while the one on the right shows a collective farm worker on a tractor, with factories in the background.

The building was damaged by a Russian attack using “Shaheed”-type kamikaze drones on December 31, 2023, and lost some of its windows.
