The Shcherbinin Estate is located in the central part of the village of Babai, across from the village council. Unfortunately, it is rapidly falling into disrepair.
A commemorative plaque on the building states that a great Ukrainian phylosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda lived on this estate in the 1770s and wrote *Kharkiv Fables* here. However, according to research by A. Paramonov, this particular house on the estate was built in the first half of the 19th century, when Skovoroda was no longer alive. Architect V. Lopatyko agrees with this assessment.
Unfortunately, although the left half of the house is still inhabited, the right half has been abandoned for a long time and is therefore in extremely poor condition. Moreover, it is extremely difficult to get a good look at the estate because of the tall concrete fence.
Directly across from the estate is a square featuring a community center and a bust of the philosopher, which was erected in 2013 (sculptor S. Yastrebov).
In 2005, ceramic tiles used to line the stove were removed from a dilapidated estate and taken to the Ceramic Tile Museum (Heroes of Kharkiv Avenue, 257A).

The porch shown in the photo collapsed in 2023.
