The oldest trees planted in Kharkiv are located on Maydan Arkhitektoriv. One of the two oak trees, which have almost grown together, was planted here around the 1740s; the other was planted in the 1820s.

A long time ago, there was a park here, but then it disappeared—it was partially built over. The houses were demolished to make way for the “Architect Beketov” metro station back in the 1980s. The oak trees, however, have weathered it all and still stand tall, showing no signs of decay.

That said, there are oak trees in Shevchenko Park that date back to the 1500s—but they grew there on their own, even before Kharkiv was founded.
