The Mysterious Kharkiv Menu from the Kuskovo Estate

The Kuskovo Estate is truly one of the jewels of the once-illustrious Sheremetev family.

It consisted of three parts: the reservoir area with the Menagerie, a French-style formal garden featuring the main architectural complex, and the English-style “Guy” Park.

At the beginning of the last century, it was in Kuskovo that the Sheremetevs hosted lavish dinner parties. In addition to these feasts, the Sheremetevs paid great attention to the presentation of the menu.
On September 25, 1909, the dinner menu was suddenly adorned with our city’s coat of arms. The reason for this remains unknown. Perhaps it was the arrival at the estate near Moscow of a distinguished guest from Kharkiv? Or maybe some event connected with the Sheremetev family and our city?

All of this remains, for now, a mystery shrouded in darkness…
