Magnificent examples of the work of sculptor Evgeny Lansere, one of the most prominent figures in 19th-century cabinet sculpture, can be found in two museums in Kharkiv.

The permanent exhibition at the Kharkiv Art Museum features two works.

The sculpture “Svyatoslav,” created in 1886, depicts Prince Svyatoslav Igorevich on his campaign against Tsargrad in 970.

The sculpture “Chumak” (1870) depicts a young chumak lying on a cart loaded with salt and pulled by two oxen.

The exhibition at the Kharkiv Historical Museum also features two sculptures by Yevgeny Lansere.

“The Farewell Kiss” (1878) depicts a Cossack from the time of the 19th-century Caucasian Wars saying goodbye to a young woman.

The sculpture “A Zaporozhian Cossack After the Battle” was created in 1873. It was cast at the Stange and Chopin factory. The detailing of the ammunition and the horses’ harnesses deserves special attention.
