The historic building that once housed the Kharkiv Carriage Works burned down on May 6, 2010, but its exterior walls are still standing. The exact dates of its construction are unknown—it was most likely built in the 1870s or 1880s.

The current railcar manufacturing plant traces its history back to the Main Railcar Workshops, whose first buildings, according to the company’s website, were completed in July 1869.

In 2001, it became a railcar manufacturing plant. In addition to performing major repairs and overhauls on various types of railcars (primarily open-top cars), the plant began assembling all-metal open-top railcars.
