As many people realize, at the beginning of the last century, there were neither televisions nor computers with internet access.
How did people entertain themselves back then?

In addition to reading the well-known Kharkiv newspapers *Yuzhny Krai* and *Kharkiv Provincial Gazette*, as well as going to the theater and movies, the residents of our city also loved reading humor magazines. In addition to national entertainment and humor magazines, local publications were also available for purchase in our city.
Here is a partial list of them:
- "Bryzgi," Editor and Publisher V. A. Dolgorukov;
- "Buff," a humor and literary magazine. Editor and publisher: A. Tikhonovich;
- "Zhalo." A voice in socio-political satire. Editor and publisher: Germeyer;
- "The Evil Spirit";
- "Sword";
- "Kharkiv Skewer";
- "Shtyk." Editor: A. I. Bakhmach; Publisher: E. F. Tikhanoich. Kharkiv. Most of the text—and even the illustrations—were the work of the legendary Arkady Averchenko.
