For many people, their homeland is Kharkiv. But for some, their homeland is Ridnyi Krai (Homeland).
That is the name of a settlement in the Zolochiv District of the Kharkiv Oblast. Paradoxically, the village was founded during the difficult years of the Civil War—more specifically, in 1919. It is located on the shore of the Rogozhansky Reservoir, which is used primarily for fish farming. According to the 2001 census, Ridnyi Krai has a population of just 33 people. Interestingly, the village is completely absent from the 1967 directory of cities and villages of the Ukrainian SSR; it may have been overlooked due to its small population even back then.
