“Alice in Wonderland” Staircase

At Voznesenska Street, 10 stands a building with one of the strangest staircases in Kharkiv.

It resembles an illustration from *Alice in Wonderland*, where the staircases are arranged in a chaotic order and look like “brain-teaser” style geometric puzzles.

The house is not a historic landmark, but let’s assume it dates from around the 1880s, judging by the modest decoration on the facade.

On the top floor, the wall that once supported the ceiling abruptly ends, hanging in midair—these are traces of an addition built on top of the original structure, most likely in the 1920s or 1930s.

According to the 1909 list of property owners, the lot belonged to Vladimir Pavlovich Egorovsky, a law student, and at that time its address was Dvoryanska Street, 6.

The original interior doors have also been preserved here, but judging by the signs, guests are clearly not welcome here.
