
In the 1915 book *Kharkiv: A Guide for Tourists and Sightseers*, we find the following highly intriguing information:
There are very few cars in the city—about 300. The city’s poor road surfaces, along with the equally poor highways and country roads outside the city, hinder the growth of car use.
