As is well known, genre sculpture played a central role in E. A. Lansere’s body of work.

The sculptor was interested in people’s everyday lives and their daily labor. In his sculptures, we see masterfully crafted horses, Caucasian horsemen, and heroes of the Russo-Turkish War. However, in addition to all this, Ukraine and its people played a significant role in the work of this great genius of Russian bronze sculpture.

For example, the domestic scene “The Ukrainian Plowman”…

…or the dramatic “Cossack After the Battle,” in which the figure of the Cossack is portrayed in a particularly emotional and agitated manner, conveying the tension of the battle that has just taken place.

His latest work, “Svyatoslav”—in which the proud, majestic prince bears a striking resemblance to a Cossack from folk ballads, a hero imbued with the romance of ancient history…
The great master has created many such works…

And it’s heartening to know that our shared Sloboda Ukraine was what inspired him to create his masterpieces…
