To cool off the hot summer, today in our book section is the educational book “On the Polar Countries” by A. M. Krasnov, published in 1904 by the Kharkiv Society for the Promotion of Literacy among the People.

The printing house of I. Varshavchyk, which published the book, was located in Kharkiv at Mykolaivska Street, 3. The book describes the harsh nature and life of the Eskimos, Chukchi, and other northern peoples. Unfortunately, the total exploitation and deception of the gullible Chukchi and Samoyeds by the newcomers is described “in all its glory” already in this book.
