Frankivska and Prymerivs’ka Streets have retained their own unique 19th-century spirit, quite different from that of Kontorska Street, but one that is also slowly fading away. At the end of the 19th century, Frankivska Street was named—while he was still alive—after Vladislav Frankovsky, Kharkiv’s greatest physician, who dedicated his life to helping the poor and children. In the video, you can see the well-known and beloved Gothic Revival building on Oboronniy Val Square undergoing restoration, and at the corner of Frankivska and Prymerivs’ka Streets, a relic from World War II has been preserved: a partially worn-away inscription in German that reads “Frankiwska Str.”
