Katsars’ka Street, 19

According to the list of architectural landmarks, the building at Katsars’ka Street, 19 was designed by Olexander Ginzburg and built in 1908; it is located entirely within the courtyard.

The “round” Art Nouveau-style entrance still surprises visitors, and the simple steel door installed here to replace the original one looks particularly out of place. Overall, the fact that the building lacks plaster is highly unusual for architect Ginzburg’s designs. Or did the building lose its plaster during renovations?

Also, in the 2010s, the window frames in the building’s staircase were damaged (they are still intact in the 2011 Google Street View images).

But the staircase is very bright and retains a pleasant old-world charm, thanks to the Mettlach tiles and the original staircase railings.

The painted-over windows visible in the video below appear to have illuminated the 2nd, service staircase.
