According to the list of architectural landmarks in Kharkiv, this building at Sumska Street, 52 was built in 1874 by architect G. Strizhevsky.

The renovation and addition of the second floor were carried out in 1900 based on a design by I. Zagoskin; Vasily Krichevsky also worked on the facade design. The building took on an eclectic appearance with Gothic Revival elements.

The client for the renovation was Nikolai Stepanovich Avdakov.

In the 1909 list of property owners, he is listed as a state councilor and mining engineer.

After the renovation, part of the building was used as a private tuberculosis hospital—Avdakov’s wife was a doctor.

During the Soviet era, the building housed a tuberculosis hospital as well; in recent decades, it has stood abandoned.
