The Kharkiv Regional Branch of the Writers’ Union of Ukraine is located at Chernyshevska Street, 59.

According to the list of architectural monuments in Kharkiv, the building was constructed in the early 20th century based on a design by architect Oleksander Ginzburg.

In 1909, the house at number 59 on this street belonged to Prince Nikolai Yakovlevich Kutiev; however, it is not certain that the address did not change after the 1917.

The house has long been associated with literature. Famous poets and writers of the 1920s (Maik Johansen, Mykola Khvylovy) used to visit the building, and it once housed the Ukrainian branch of the Literary Fund of the USSR.

It is worth noting that this Art Nouveau building, featuring historicist elements, has retained its original window frames and door.

Commemorative plaques indicate that the poet Vladimir Svidzinsky worked in the building in the 1930s, and that the poet Vasily Mysik worked there from 1956 until his death in 1983.

Between 2022 and 2024, the windows, roof, walls, and interior of the house sustained serious damage from Russian missile strikes.
