For a long time, the building at Goldbergivska Street, 77 stood out for its size and grandeur in this section of the street, where small one- and two-story houses predominate. It was built in 1915 as a comprehensive elementary school. At that time, the street was called Zaikovskaya Street.

The project was designed by architect Iliodor Zagoskin. We have written about schools built according to Zagoskin’s designs. All of them were made in an eclectic style, but this particular three-story building stood out for its rather intricate decoration and massive attics at the ends of the building, where attic windows were evidently located. These features gave the school a somewhat “palatial” appearance. The school was built with funds from the family of the merchant Golberg, who also provided the land for it.

Since 1953, the building has housed the Kharkiv Technical School of Railway Transport—now known as the Kharkiv College of Transport Technologies. The college had up to 1,500 students.
On November 3, 2023, the college building was severely damaged by a Russian “Shaheed” strike drone. The second and third floors of the building were destroyed. The surviving right section of the facade was dismantled by rescue workers that same day to prevent it from collapsing onto passersby.
