One of the least well-known historic locomotives in Kharkiv, locomotive SO 17-2327, is located on the grounds of the Osnova depot.

The locomotive was designed by a team of engineers at the Kharkiv Locomotive Works under the leadership of P. M. Sharoiko and was manufactured from 1934 to 1951 (a total of 4,487 units were produced).

The SO locomotive was named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze, the People’s Commissar of Heavy Industry of the USSR, and was manufactured at six factories.

This particular locomotive was manufactured in 1947 at the Krasnoyarsk Locomotive Works.

Another SO17-1900 steam locomotive is located on the restricted grounds of the Malyshev Plant.
